RENFREW, Scotland – July 4, 2023 – Terumo Aortic, a division of Terumo Corporation, today announced that it has received approval from Japan's Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) for the Thoraflex™ Hybrid device, expanding treatment options for patients with complex aortic disease in Japan.
The Thoraflex Hybrid device is a single-stage hybrid prosthesis designed for the treatment of complex aortic arch and descending aorta disease, combining a surgical graft with an integrated stent-graft component to simplify a traditionally complex two-stage surgical approach.
"This approval represents an important step in bringing our advanced aortic arch technology to patients in Japan," said a Terumo Aortic representative. "We are committed to expanding global access to the Thoraflex Hybrid device to help more patients with complex aortic disease."
The approval allows Japanese cardiac and vascular surgeons to offer this hybrid treatment approach to patients requiring complex aortic arch repair.
